Governor Joseph Meets with Pohnpei Rotary Club Leadership to Explore Medical Assistance Partnership

PEILAPALAP, Pohnpei: October 31, 2025 — Governor Stevenson A. Joseph and Lt. Governor Herolyn S. Movick welcomed key leadership from the Pohnpei Rotary Club during a courtesy visit held at Peilapalap today. Past President Rick Dereas and Immediate Past President Melner Isaac presented a proposal for a collaborative initiative aimed at improving medical services in Pohnpei.
Also present at the meeting were Director Sihna N. Lawrence of the Department of Treasury & Administration and Director Stuard Penias of the Department of Health and Social Services.
The Rotary representatives shared their intent to support Pohnpei State with a medical assistance project funded by Rotary Club grants focused on enhancing access to essential medical equipment and strengthening staff training. Part of the proposal includes a targeted needs assessment to better identify equipment and capacity-building priorities specific to Pohnpei’s health system.
Director Stuard Penias expressed his support for the proposed project and the assessment of needs to ensure the initiative addresses priority gaps within the health sector.
The project vision also includes a coordinated health fair to raise public health awareness, foster preventive healthcare, and support hands-on engagement with visiting medical professionals.
In addition, the Rotary Club expressed strong interest in collaborating with the Nursing Program and the new teaching clinic at the College of Micronesia–FSM, ensuring that both students and healthcare workers benefit from practical training and modern equipment.
Governor Joseph welcomed the opportunity to expand this partnership, recognizing it as aligned with the administration’s health priorities and ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery for the people of Pohnpei.
The Pohnpei State Government will continue to work closely with the Rotary Club to review the proposal details and determine next steps toward formalizing support and implementation.
