PALIKIR, Pohnpei: February 27, 2026 – Governor Stevenson A. Joseph, representing the Joseph-Movick Administration, delivered welcoming remarks today at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new FSM Humanitarian Warehouse. Located behind the FSM TC&I Annex Building, the facility marks a milestone in regional disaster preparedness.
During his address, Governor Joseph explained that the gathering on Pohnpei soil represented more than just a construction project. He noted that by partnering through the Pacific Humanitarian Warehousing Program, the government is ensuring it can move beyond simple reaction to a state of total readiness to respond rapidly in times of disaster. He described the facility as the essential backbone of emergency logistics, made possible through the instrumental support of Australia, the European Union, Japan, and New Zealand.
National and International Unity
President Wesley W. Simina also spoke, highlighting the importance of the warehouse’s location to organize and deploy essential supplies. The ceremony featured additional remarks from Australian Ambassador H.E. Jenny Grant and Pacific Community (SPC)Director-General Dr. Paula Vivili.
Other high-level attendees included the Chinese Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Wu Wei; the U.S. Ambassador, Jennifer Johnson; the Sokehs Chief Magistrate, Stanley Ernest; and the SPC Regional Director, Willy Kostka.
A Call for Streamlined Action
While pledging Pohnpei State’s full support for the initiative, Governor Joseph expressed his hope that these public warehouses would be managed with less red tape and bureaucracy. He emphasized that because these facilities are critical lifelines for immediate relief after a disaster, administrative efficiency is vital for protecting and providing the needs of citizens with speed.
The Governor concluded by stating that the project serves as proof of what can be achieved when traditional leadership, state and national governments, and international partners work together to build a resilient future.
